Our WPS Windposts are designed as ‘spine’ posts for use within internal blockwork walls where the post cannot protrude beyond either face of the wall.

Commonly used with fair faced blockwork, the depths of WPS posts are limited by the width of the masonry (normally at least 20mm less than the wall width). The thickness of the post adjusted to suit the required load capacity.

Tie slot holes are provided at 225mm vertical centres to suit coursing and supplied two-way windpost ties secure the post to the blockwork.

Debonded ties (with plastic sleeves) can be used if the post is positioned at a vertical movement joint.

Non Standard Coursing

WPS windposts can also be used in cavity wall situations as an alternative to the WPA configuration. Offering similar performance to the WPA type, WPS posts can be specified with a front channel tie system to provide unlimited vertical adjustment of the ties for the outer leaf of masonry, particularly suitable for decorative brickwork and non-aligned courses.

Product Availability

WPS Windposts are available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses to suit different block sizes and wind loadings. The channel sections of these windposts are designed to accommodate Wincro’s large range of C28 end-type brick ties, providing a wide variety of fixing options.

WPS Performance and Properties

Wincro WPS Windposts are designed to a maximum deflection limit of span/360 and a maximum stress of 174N/mm2. Contact our Technical Design team for further advice and information on windpost requirements.

Fixing Methods

Head Fixing to Concrete

Various solutions are available for fixing to concrete framed structures including the use of T-head bolts into cast in channels, site drilled Expansion Bolts or the use of resin anchor products.

Example shows site drilled WBEB Expansion Bolts.

Head Fixing to Steelwork

Various solutions are available for fixing to steel framed structures including the use of Xylan-coated Setscrews or Wincro RHS Blind Bolts, together with Isolation Patches.

Example shows site drilled WBXS Xylan setscrews and Isolators.

Stainless Steel

All Wincro windposts are manufactured from high quality grade 1.4301 (304) stainless steel to ensure durability and long life. Our Windposts can also be manufactured from grade 1.4401(316) stainless steel for corrosive environments and galvanised mild steel for internal use.

Design Service

Occasionally, exacting information for Windposts is not specified and our Technical Design team is available to assist with the correct selection and specification following receipt of some basic information or drawings. Our Windpost Design Sheet (available to download here) will assist with this process, together with the wind loading information for the building.

Design drawings can be provided and our assistance ranges from simple guidance to a fully computerised design service with advice on the appropriate use of windposts or special designs. For more information or to discuss your current project, please contact our Technical Design team on 0114 242 2171.
