Construction Products Regulation (CPR) & CE Marking
From 1st July 2013, the CE marking of construction products covered by a harmonised European Standard (hEN) or European Technical Approval is a legal requirement of the Construction Products Regulation.
The aim of the CPR is to harmonize the technical specifications of a product, the ways in which products are tested and to breakdown the technical barriers to trade in construction products in the European Economic Area.
Declaration of Performance
A CE mark indicates that a product is consistent with its Declaration of Performance. This declaration confirms that the product conforms to its declared performance under its hEN and is made by the manufacturer according to each product and its use.
The CE mark assures the end user of a products conformity to its harmonized European Standard covered under the CPR.
Key points
Every construction product covered by a Harmonized European standard under the CPR must carry a CE mark from the 1st July 2013.
It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to apply the CE mark to any product that they place on the market in the European Economic Area.
It is the responsibility of the Merchant, Supplier or Specifier to ensure that all products it supplies or specifies carry a CE Mark.
